Breast Augmentation

Currently the most effective and permanent method for breast augmentation is silicone prostheses. Other breast augmentation techniques are; lipofilling and injection of water-binding substances called aquafilling.

These are relatively easier to implement but non-permanent methods. A permanent prosthesis need to surgery for implantation, they are designed to look, weigh and move like a natural breast. They are made of silicone and have different sizes and shapes like round or tear-drop. The decision on the size and shape of the implant is based on patient's wishes, surgeon's own experience and pre-operative measurements. Since silicones are foreign bodies in the human body, a response reaction called capsuler contraction may develop over time. Capsular contracture presents as a progressive tightness, firmness and elevation of breast implant.Conservative methods such as massage can help in mild to moderate cases. In severe cases; surgery - capsular excision, implant removal or replacement- can be neccessary.

Patients are admitted to hospital on an empty stomach on the morning of surgery. The anesthesiologist meet them to further discuss of their medical history and evaluate of blood tests.The surgery is performed under general anesthesia.The implants can placed through the peri-areolar, inframmarian or axillary incision. After surgery, the patient is hospitalized one night and discharged the next day. Drains which can be inserted to prevent fluid build up under skin is removed usually on the postoperative second or third day. Patients are allowed to go back their daily activity 1 week after surgery. They need to wear shaping bra and not to do heavy sports for 6 weeks.
