Vaginal Reconstruction

Vaginal reconstruction ( Vaginoplasty ) is usually performed because of congenital absence of vagina or gender reassignment.

Different methods such as skin graft or skin flap are used for surgical treatment. These are more easily implemented methods however vaginal dryness and stenosis can be seen ,and long term stenting for dilatation can be necessary.

The most natural-looking method is the intestinal segment transfer. The intestinal mucosa is the closest to the vaginal tissue in terms of not only physical aspect but also function, with it's own excretion and it's pink, soft appearance. After detailed information about all methods is given to the patient, the type of surgery method is decided and a reconstruction plan is made. We usually recommend vaginal reconstruction with an intestine segment to our patients.
